Their core operating principle involves harnessing the thrust generated by high-speed airflow to guide and propel air throughout the tunnel along a specific direction, much like a locomotive.

Highway Tunnel

Functions:

Daily Ventilation: Dilutes vehicle exhaust emissions (such as carbon monoxide CO and nitrogen oxides NOx), dust and smoke within the tunnel, maintaining air visibility and quality to provide a safe and healthy passage environment for drivers and passengers.

Fire Smoke Extraction: This is a critical safety function during fire incidents. Jet fans rapidly and effectively control smoke dispersion, creating a clear 'smoke-free corridor' for passenger evacuation and firefighter access to the fire scene.

Bidirectional Traffic Conversion: By altering the fan's jet direction, the airflow within the tunnel can be reversed to accommodate changing traffic flows (e.g., inbound traffic during morning rush hour, outbound traffic during evening rush hour).

Metro and Railway Tunnels

Functions:

Piston Effect Ventilation Support/Control: High-speed metro trains operating within tunnels generate a 'piston effect,' pushing and pulling air like a piston. Jet fans are employed to supplement or regulate this natural ventilation, providing reinforcement during periods of high train density when the piston effect alone is insufficient to expel all exhaust gases and heat.

Station Ventilation: Commonly employed in platform ventilation systems, these fans extract stale air from platforms into the tunnel, where it is expelled by tunnel fans.

Fire Incident Ventilation: Similar to road tunnels, smoke extraction and airflow control during fires constitute a vital component of life safety systems.

Submerged Tunnels

Such as those crossing seas or rivers. Due to their greater airtightness, extended length, and challenging evacuation conditions, these tunnels impose exceptionally stringent demands on ventilation systems. Jet fans serve precisely the same function here as in road tunnels, yet their reliability and disaster-resistance requirements are even more rigorous.
